Big Old Names Touring in Los Angeles in July '07

July 07 has been proving to be a blockbuster in music names and entertainers. We have the oldies, rock stars, pop stars, and phenomenal art/theatre events. Most notable however are the classics from the 60’s. Given the current big names in music touring today – Beyonce and Justin Timberlake to name a few – it is impressive to see some older bands from 40 years back competing for limelight in the summer concert season.
Take the 60’s rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, coming to southern California the last week of July. In 2003, they celebrated their 30-year anniversary and toured heavily in 2004 (co-headlining with the Allman Brothers). Inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 – they are again touring in 2007. They have been actively performing since 2000, continuously touring and going strong and steady with ticket sales and support. It seems that it’s not just the baby boomers supporting these gigs (or at least it would not be enough to sustain their shows) – many in younger generations have discovered and appreciate Lynyrd Skynyrd’s music. These new younger market are possibly what’s helping fill-up the venues where they perform.
Another big 60’s rock classic name coming this week is Bob Dylan. He started his 2007 US tour June at Atlantic City and will end in July in California (then he heads on to his New Zealand/Australia tour). Bob Dylan’s first album was in 1962 – his music primarily focused on the political and social unrest in America. He has been steadily popular for almost five decades now and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a few years back. Another major recognition awarded to him is being listed in Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people of the 20th century. He will be touring strong for more years to come – both old and new fans will be in support.
No doubt the 60’s rock names will continue to perform and compete for audience in the years to come. They are classics that will live on.

Where Do You Want Your Music To Fall Into? The "Biz" Or The "Everything"?
To quote a question from my favorite movie Almost Famous, "What do you love about music?", the answer,"Well, to begin with.... everything!" There is a pretty big difference between the "everything" that we love in the "Music Industry", and the unnerving abyss that is the "Music Biz". Teetering on the fence between the two, where does today's artist fall?
